Everyone’s story is one of continuing
grace through the trials of life; a story of
undeserved redemption; a story of God’s
love. We are each on a journey, not only as
individuals, but also as a church.
Over the course of Calvary’s history, God
has been establishing us as a place of
refuge within Grand Rapids. As we look
back at the last decade in particular,
we can see that God has shown up in a
number of key ways to lead us forward
on this journey, increasing our desire to
welcome and serve others who need to
experience the grace we’ve received. From
the Buck House Project in 2007 where God
taught us to simply walk in obedience, to
the Extravagant Gift offering in 2011 that
highlighted the importance of Calvary being
a house of prayer. While Grace Beyond is
a building project, it’s also about how God
has shown His grace to us and how He
wants to show it through us.
We believe that the church is where we
gather to profess Jesus as Lord in worship,
where we grow in our faith in the context of community, where we serve one
another with the gifts God has given us,
where we are committed to both rejoicing
and suffering as a family and where the
gospel is proclaimed that many would be
reconciled to Christ. Within our current
structure, it can be easy for people to
experience some aspects of what it means
to be the church, but to never fully engage
with God’s purposes for His people. As we
enhance our building, we hope to draw
people not just into the physical Sanctu-
