Calvary Church serves over 2000 older adults, ages 60 and over. Calvary’s “Baby Boomer” generation continues to grow as we expect this age group to increase by 35% over the next five years. This year’s transition to new leadership in our senior community has been both challenging and rewarding, as we began the process of preparing for the future needs of our older adults as well as coordinating current ministry programs. Bruce and Debbie Huseby started off the Our Senior Adult Ministry staff worked year with a little humor. together providing compassion, pastoral care and ministry coordination with other Calvary ministry departments to see that, our older adults remain a top priority at Calvary Church. This past years Health and Wellness Expo is a prime example, giving our seniors needed information on issues related to financial planning, health and health insurance concerns, as well as downsizing assistance. This opportunity was not just for Calvary seniors. All of West Michigan was invited to attend giving our senior volunteers the opportunity to share Christ with those who attended from outside our church walls. Our Senior Ministry team of three staff members and approximately 100 volunteers is dedicated to meeting the needs of our growing older adult population, emphasizing community and spiritual growth through prayer and Bible study. Equipping seniors to share the gospel of Christ while continuing to strengthen their own spirituality is our goal and key to a Christ-centered Senior Adult Ministry at Calvary Church. 2013-2014 by the numbers Chera Ministry continues to serve over 130 Calvary widows and widowers with a team of volunteers dedicated to fulfilling our goal of compassion and continued connection with those who have lost spouses within the past 24 months. Two Calvary Board-sponsored brunches and a Valentine’s Day Young Adult Ministry-sponsored brunch were coordinated during the year. Wednesday Senior Bible Study teacher Pastor Bruce continues to teach approximately 135 to 150 senior adults each week. This caring community
