special needs ministry STAFF Pamela Cook, Elleen Fitzgerald, Elizabeth Thelen, Judi Warner We are Weak: He is Strong The Special Needs ministry serves to lead Calvary Church in faithfully embracing and including children, youth and adults of all abilities and disabilities. We believe the body of Christ is truly inclusive and whole when God’s people assemble, mature, serve, care and witness together. This past year has been one of seeing God’s grace unfold in many ways. One of a few events worth highlighting was Respite Day which provided a few hours of respite for parents and a whole lot of fun for children and volunteers. Another, was the WE Care event which honored our adult group home caregivers. It was a morning of relaxation, encouragement and sharing. Talent Night continues to be one of our fastest growing, most anticipated events and last year was no exception. The night consisted of more than 300 guests enjoying a variety of acts by 50 individuals. Summertime fun with friends at the Go Getter picnic. Our teaching theme for this past year was “Never Alone” based on Deuteronomy 31:8. Both the adults and children participated in weekly lessons that took them through the books of the Bible. Teachers were asked to highlight a person from that book who experienced God’s presence in their life. One more exciting segment of the Special Needs Ministry has been the opportunity to offer American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation to the deaf and hard of hearing during Calvary’s second hour of worship on Sunday morning. There were also ASL classes available for those eager to learn the language and more about deaf culture. We thank Debbie Mills and Faye Moore for their ministry to the deaf community. We praise God for how He has led this ministry to where it is today and continue to anticipate great opportunities of service to our Lord in the future.
