operations
From Technical Services to Facilities to Culinary Services, we are seeing a shift in how we operate as ministry
support staff. God is calling us to bring more people into the work that is needed to maintain and operate
each week. There are increasing opportunities for people to serve in these ministry areas, coming alongside
staff to operate technical equipment, provide custodial service, and maintain the building. In this vein,
Facilities Director Ken Meines shares how God has been at work to bring about this culture change in our
church over the past couple years.
Over the past two years we have had the privilege of
seeing blessings from God manifest before our eyes.
From a beautiful Prayer Garden and Sanctuary to
draw us closer to Him, to wonderful spaces for ev-
eryone from infants through seniors to fellowship and
learn. Even greater than the building changes are the
changes God is making in our identity as a congre-
gation. The sacrifices made of both our finances and
our time have increased our faith and deepened our
relationship with our Creator and one another.
Luke 12:48b states: “From everyone to whom much
has been given, much will be required; and from the
one to whom much has been entrusted, even more
will be demanded.” Here at Calvary we have been
given much and our journey is not over; we have just
begun a new chapter.
With this beautiful facility comes responsibility to
care for it. We estimate that we will need an addition-
al 200 hours of custodial support each week to keep
the building clean. There are various ways we could
accomplish this like increasing the operating budget
and hiring more staff to do the work. However, this
would deprive us, the congregation, of opportunities
to use the gifts God has given each of us. As we pur-
sue becoming better stewards of what God has pro-
vided, the Calvary Leadership is challenging each of
us to step up to this challenge.
If you’ve ever participated in a smaller church, this
everybody chips in model will be familiar to you. In
order to leverage the limited time of paid staff, we
are seeking volunteer support to set up and clean for
events and activities. If you meet here regularly with
a class or Bible Study, you will receive details from
your ministry leader on how this change impacts you.
In addition to asking groups to take on the respon-
sibility of setting up and tearing down their meeting,
we are also providing opportunities for individuals
and small groups to join in with the weekly cleaning
and maintenance of the church. Whether God has
given you time, talent or a simple desire to support
His work in this place, we hope you will come along-
side us in meeting the challenge that this new space
provides.
Please pray how God may be inviting you to use your
talents to help care for His church. My staff and I
eagerly await how the Lord will move through His
people as we obediently meet the challenge He has
offered us in this season.
