women’s ministries
This has been a year of building
a caring community within Women’s
Ministry. Our Tuesday morning Gathering
Place Study (GPS) continued to connect
women to Jesus and to one another by
creating a warm, loving atmosphere for
growth in God’s Word, prayer, worship
and community. We journeyed through
the Life of Moses as we studied Exodus
together. GPS Kids grew in God’s
Word right along with their moms. Our
Christmas mission focus was the women
in need in our own community. Our
groups confidentially pinpointed women
who had special needs and gave to those
families an abundant offering.
Caring for working women also
became a big priority for us this year.
In the fall we hosted an event just for
working women called “Fill My Cup.” Out
of that time of networking and fellowship
several opportunities emerged. We
began a Tuesday evening Bible study,
a Wednesday night option especially
for working moms that used our GPS
curriculum, and one of the women who
attended started a Moms in Prayer group.
Our big event had a special
emphasis on caring for women. Close
to 400 women filled the church for the
“Imagine Me, Set Free” retreat in March
and enjoyed teaching, small group
discussions, and powerful worship. Our
speaker, Pat Layton, has a heart to bring
women into freedom in Christ and many
walked away with a renewed passion for
their faith and a deeper relationship with
Christ.
We’ve had a Prayer Shawl ministry
for many years but this year, we could
hardly keep them available because so
many women were using them to minister
to others and pray for them. The MOPs
(Mothers of Preschoolers) outreach
overflowed with opportunities to come
alongside moms with young children and
Apples of Gold established wonderful
mentoring relationships.
I just want to let you know that Tuesday night Bible study was a powerful experience. We met at a
local restaurant for our last lesson, and it was so good. Right after we finished the lesson, a lady came
up to us. She was in tears. This lady said she overheard our lesson and asked if we could pray for a
difficult situation in her life. We surrounded her and prayed for her and a family member she was very
concerned about. The Lord works in mysterious ways!! One of the ladies in the group felt prompted to
give her a copy of our study, titled, “Living Victoriously in Difficult Times.” The study may be over for us,
but hopefully it just began for someone else. — Mary
