Operations
Calvary’s operations staff serves to facilitate all ministry that happens at
the church. Our time and energy is devoted to everything, from adult classes,
Bible studies, youth events, special worship services, and more, with the goal
of keeping the operations side of ministry running smoothly and efficiently, to
the glory of God.
This past year, one of our own, Chef Rod Pierce and his wife, Tuny, have
gone through a difficult period of life as Rod continues to battle with ALS (Lou
Gehrig’s disease). Kevin Troupe has done a wonderful job running the daily
operations of the kitchen and continuing to provide Calvary with all that you
have come to expect from our Culinary department.
As Chef Rod’s health has become a personal challenge, we are thankful
that a number of people have stepped in to help where needed. For instance,
Rod’s class (the 24/7 Adult Sunday Class that meets during the 11:15 hour)
have offered tremendous support by performing household tasks like mowing
the lawn, building a shed, power washing the house, moving things around in
the basement, etc. Rod and Tuny say the efforts have been very helpful.
In addition, various Calvary staff members have worked to get together
with Rod (and Tuny) for a time of fellowship with a special night – “Dinner & a
Movie.” This has been a great time to get together with one of our own staff
members to have fellowship and just plain hang out! Tuny has been included
in a few of these and it was a nice break from her “duties” in needing to take
care of her husband.
2012-2013
by the numbers
1700 worship service videos were sent to
shut-ins.
270 people from all over the world regularly join
our Sunday services streaming online.
20,000 CD/DVDs were duplicated.
47,000 different people visited our website.
Approximately 25,000 audio/video files were
downloaded from our website. More than 5,000
UNDIVIDED sermons were downloaded.
In one year of Wednesday Fellowship Dinners,
we serve approximately 1,200 pounds of lettuce.
Enough volume to fill our baptistery with lettuce
three times! Now that’s a salad! If you are keeping
track, to top that salad we use approximately 62
gallons of salad dressing.
To satisfy our thirst here at Calvary, we served
approximately 7,230 gallons of soda, lemonade
and iced tea from our fountain machines in the
past year. If this were gasoline, Chef Kevin could
drive his Ford Explorer to Miami, Florida and back
43 times!
With rising electric costs we were able to keep
our budget for electricity the same by finding
ways to reduce consumption. This past year we
reduced our use by another 5% (12% from two
years ago or 37.5% from 2004-2005)
The new boilers installed in the summer of 2011
are really paying back in savings. We were able
to reduce our gas consumption another 13% this
past year for a total of 44% from two years ago.
Along with reducing our use we were able to buy
gas at a locked market price so our gas expense
was reduced by 21% this past year or 52% from
two years ago.
