young adults The Young Adult Ministry has seen a lot of spiritual maturation through the course of this past year. It has been exciting to see those in our ministry grow in Christ and the understanding of the importance of being in community. One area of growth has been in relationships between those in the three Young Adult groups of College Ministry, Merge and Foundations. Through many joint events such as all Young Adult Worship Nights, Book Club, and our Softball Team many great friendships have formed as everyone looks to grow in Christ as part of the church body and not just in their smaller community. Another area where we saw tremendous spiritual growth was in the areas of evangelism and missions. In December, a group of 18 young adults went to the Urbana Missions Conference in St. Louis. Everyone in the group came away with a deep passion and urgency for sharing the gospel. It was revealed to several in the group that God is calling them to be full-time missionaries. One incredible way God was at work was when He communicated to one of the members on the trip that He was calling him to be a missionary in China. At the same time, God revealed to his girlfriend back in Grand Rapids that she was called to be a missionary in China. God spoke to them both individually without either one knowing that God was calling them both to serve in China, together. They are now engaged and beginning their preparations by attending Moody in the Fall of 2014. It was amazing to see God orchestrate this calling in their lives. 12 | Calvary Church Annual Report Young Adult Staff: Mason Sherrill, Katelyn McNeil, Sue Schroeder, Natalie Uecker 2012-2013 by the numbers Many in our community have expressed a love for missions this past year. God is raising people up to serve in unique ways locally (on short-term trips to such places as Detroit) and throughout the world! 103 people attended Merge last year 18 Young Adults attended Urbana Missions Conference As a ministry, we are currently in a time of transition as many are moving to different communities within Young Adults and Calvary. Due to graduations and marriages, many people in the College Ministry are moving to either the Merge or Foundations communities. They are taking what they have learned about the importance of community in the College Ministry and moving on to bless these other communities. The current Foundations community has grown together over the past two years and is now ready to transition into Calvary Community as a self-led Adult Sunday Class. It was wonderful seeing God develop leaders and class coordinators as this community matured in their faith together. This fall, Young Adult Ministries will begin a new Foundations community for the engaged or newly married couples at Calvary who are not currently connected. God has been so faithful throughout the year and we are excited to see how He continues to lead, guide, and mature the college students and young adults here at Calvary. We are also excited to see how he raises up the volunteers we need, including College Ministry small group leaders, mentors and those who bless this age group with lunches on Sunday. It is humbling and exciting to witness the growth of the next generation of leaders at Calvary Church! 13 Young Adults served on the Detroit Mission Trip 154 Young Adults attended the Worship Nights + 56 Young Adults from the Foundations group transitioned into Calvary Community 49 Young Adults have served within the community
