Frontier FFA
Officer Team Training
Submitted by Presley Cortez
With every new chapter officer team comes planning , preparation , and motivation to work together towards a common goal . The Frontier FFA chapter officer team kicked off their year of service over three jam-packed days at the FFA Officer Retreat , officers had the chance to learn about each others ’ personality , set goals for the chapter , learn how to facilitate workshops , and divide the work outlined in our Program of Activities . Next , at the San Joaquin Regional Boot Camp in San Luis Obispo , officers were challenged physically , mentally , and emotionally during two intense days of extreme obstacle challenges leaving some terrified of heights and others assured teammates had their backs . The team rounded out the summer by participating in the South Valley Sectional Chapter Officer Leadership Conference held at Frontier High School . Workshops helped officers find their strength as leaders , a will for compromise , and most importantly that teamwork makes the dream work .
Delta Charter FFA
An Inaugural Year
Submitted by Ashlee Pike
Recently , the National FFA Organization passed a bill stating that charter schools were allowed to have FFA chapters . Located in the small town of Tracy , California , the Delta Charter FFA is the third charter school in the city to have an official chapter . In the time since , we have started an array of CDE teams , competed in public speaking contests , and participated in leadership conferences . Our agriculture classes have been working hard this year to create and build our school farm . Located on campus , our farm includes over 70 fruit trees , a pumpkin patch , vegetable planter boxes ( which have been arranged to spell out “ FFA ” from a bird ’ s eye view ) a two sided free range chicken coop , and a huge greenhouse . In Delta Charter ’ s first year as a chapter , it has successfully been noticed in the region and state , and will continue to grow and surpass expectations in the years to come .
Lucerne Valley FFA
Big Changes , New Beginnings
Submitted by Alexa Walkovitz
This year , the Lucerne Valley FFA chapter has embraced change and improvement . A major change this year was the addition of a second ag instructor after 22 years with a single instructor . Because of this change , the ag program now hosts 80 % of all the high school students , setting a record for FFA membership and bringing more opportunities and experiences . This has also opened the door for increased involvement in a new variety of agriculture classes , such as Ag Earth Science , Ag Biology , Horticulture , Ag Mechanics , Ag Fabrication and Design , and Ag Leadership . In addition to a second instructor , Lucerne Valley FFA has expanded its land and lab space with a new classroom near the ag mechanics shop and greenhouses . In honor of all the new changes , the officers decided that this year the theme should be centered around the new beginnings , and chose the theme , “ New Horizons ”. •
