Tulare FFA
Helping Fire Victims
Submitted by Evan Garcia
This year, Tulare FFA has dedicated one of their
chapter goals to community service. When
we heard of the Erskine Fire devastation in
Kern County, we immediately wanted to help.
We took our chapter theme “Reach Beyond
Expectations” and reached beyond our
community to assist those in need. Members of
Tulare FFA started to spread the word and asked
friends and family for help. On Saturday, July 2nd, many generous donations were taken to the
Tulare High School Farm where members of the officer team packed them away to be taken to
the donation center in Bakersfield. We received 61 individual gallon jugs of water, 25 cases of
water bottles, and a whole pickup truck full of clothing! While waiting for donations, the officers
got a surprise visit. We would like to thank Jarrett Jacobson, the North Coast Region Secretary
and Sonoma FFA Vice President, for taking time out of visiting with his family to help out and
make a donation! We are thankful for Jarrett’s and all of the donations we received!
Imperial FFA
Learn, Lead, Succeed
Submitted by Natalia Hernandez-Maceira
The Imperial FFA Chapter in the Southern
Region recently had their yearly Agriculture
Orientation for all members at Imperial High
School. The orientation allows the students to
be exposed to all activities that are available for
them throughout the year. It also covers all of the
important aspects of what FFA stands for and
sets the standards and goals for the year. In this
session the students participated in various ice breakers to get to know each other and get them
out of their comfort zones. The officers took the opportunity to make an entertaining introduction
video for the students with this year’s theme of “Learn, Lead, Succeed.”

Newman FFA
A Patch of Hope
By Maria Martinez
Two members of the Newman FFA chapter
have shown what it means to truly believe
in the future of agriculture. After growing
vegetables in the chapter’s greenhouse, they
decided to start a different project. They
began plans to install a pumpkin patch.
Members took time out of their summer to
clear an area of land by tilling the soil and
setting up an irrigation system to prepare
for planting. The pumpkin seeds themselves
were donated by a Cal Poly professor who
heard of their plan and wanted to help.
After all their hard work and dedication,
the pumpkin patch is now in full swing and
thriving. In a year, they hope to expand
the pumpkin patch and host a community
pumpkin patch. They will use it to educate
the public about agriculture, and to inspire
more students to start agricultural projects.
