Golden Valley FFA
Plant Now, Harvest Later
Submitted by Adrianna Davis
As the 2015-2016 school year approached,
the Golden Valley FFA officers eagerly prepared
for our chapter’s schedule of events. Over the
summer, the officers got together for countless
hours of brainstorming new ideas and ways to
interact with our community. Golden Valley FFA
chose the theme “What You Plant Now, Will
Harvest Later.” We want to spread this message
not just to our chapter, but also to the campus and the community as a whole. Our main goal this
year is to grow even bigger and inspire our members to think. This year our chapter has over 400
members and our department offers over ten different agricultural courses.

New Tools for Success
Submitted by Mori Leveroni
After another year of service, the Hamilton High
Ag Department was fortunate enough to be
awarded equipment grants last spring. With
this, we were able to add a new livestock trailer,
pallet bins, and a forklift to our school farm
inventory. These new tools will allow Hamilton
High to work more efficiently and add a new
educational opportunity for our students. We
plan to certify a few eligible students for the forklift. They will be able to practice with our new
pallet bins which the grant also supplied. Hamilton City FFA would also like to show special
thanks to Deseret Farms and Friends of HC FFA for helping contribute.

One of the most memorable
events at the Humboldt
County Fair is the Youth
Livestock Lead Contest. The
Livestock Lead was created in 2012 by members of Fortuna FFA as a fun
opportunity for exhibitors to dress up their animals and creatively promote
agricultural industries. The contest is open to beef, sheep, swine, and market
goat exhibitors. Contestants include a costume that demonstrates how the
animal is used in today’s world and a creatively written explanation to
accompany it during the show. Participants parade around the show ring
similar to a beauty pageant and are awarded prizes for their efforts. This
year, Fortuna FFA members featured a sheep as a tennis player, a sheep as
a baseball player, and a steer as a bandit with his handler as the sheriff.
We are proud of our Fortuna FFA members for representing our chapter in
such a unique way!
On Saturday August 22, 2015 Gregori
FFA participated in the Salida Town and
Country Festival and Parade. The festival
and parade have been held on the fourth
Saturday of August for the past 15 years.
The parade, which kicks off the festival,
begins at 10:00 am and is open to all who
want to participate. There is also a car show
that takes place. This year’s event included
craft, food, and informational booths. The
parade included community vehicles, farm
equipment, local school bands, clubs- such
as Gregori FFA, and cultural dances. After
the parade everyone was invited to meet at
the park for live music and food.

On August 5th
through August
7th, the Gustine
FFA officer team and Agriculture teachers went to Pinecrest for a
chapter officer retreat to discuss the upcoming year. Throughout the
duration of the trip topics such as teamwork, officer responsibilities,
and the importance of each individual were acknowledged
and discussed. The officers also planned out new activities and
events that will go on throughout the upcoming year. In addition
to this, the officers participated in team building and leadership
forming activities and workshops. The retreat was very beneficial
to the officer team because of the strong relationships that were
built, and because we were able to learn new things about one
another’s weaknesses and strengths.
