Cultivating Success
Submitted by Jeff Clark
Each year, more than 12,000 individual plant
plugs are transplanted along with thousands of
“mother stock” transplants to stock up for the
school year. The opportunity to grow plants
serves as a chance to get students excited and
interested in the horticulture industry. It also offers
the potential to develop skills associated with
marketing and sales as Atwater High School
holds two primary plant sales each year. In addition to the plant sales providing funds to run the
horticulture program, the “hands-on” approach and enthusiasm towards horticulture has resulted
in increased campus pride with the student efforts in utilizing school-grown plants and creating
beautiful flowering landscape gardens all over campus.

Oysters and Oinkers
Submitted by Kari Farwell
Up here in little-old Angels Camp, home to
Bret Harte FFA, we have a fundraiser over the
summer called Oysters and Oinkers The chapter
raises money for the entire year with this year
having an enormous emphasis as we tried to
raise extra money to send our State Champion
Poultry Judging Team back to Nationals in
Kentucky. Our local businesses donate items for
a silent and live auction to be placed in baskets and raffled off. The items we receive range from
a signed Colin Kaepernick jersey to a couple bottles of wine. The entire community attends this
event in order to supports us. The event includes a 50-50 raffle in which half the proceeds go to
the chapter and the other half to the winner. At the end of the night the infamous Busta Groove
rocks out for all of the community to enjoy.
Central Catholic FFA
Rooted in Christ
By Lisa Archuleta
Central Catholic FFA has been busy working
to make our very first year one to remember.
With the help of our amazing advisor, Mrs.
Nicole Morris, and Ag Pest Coach, Mr.
Matthew Terra, four students from Central
Catholic High School were not only able
to compete at State Finals for Agriculture
Pest Control, but won the State Champion
Title. Central Catholic FFA’s success did
not stop there; we were also triumphant
at the Stanislaus County Fair. We had 14
members exhibiting livestock projects with
many members placing in the top of their
market and showmanship classes. With
our new officers in place Central Catholic
FFA is looking forward to fun meetings,
fundraisers, and exciting new classes. Our
program has more than doubled in our
second year, and we not only want to make
a difference in our chapter, but also make
a difference in our community. By being
Rooted in Christ in everything that we do,
our members know that we will be able to
handle any challenges this year and look
forward to growing our program.
