"...it is about hard work, innovation, dedication, and a mutual love and appreciation for the land. These concepts have been passed down from generation to generation." much fun talking to my grandpa about the farm power team he was on or trying on my Dad’s old FFA jacket and talking to him about his ag teachers. This lifestyle has great value. Not only because of farming and enjoying the land, but because of the things that you can learn from it. This lifestyle is something that I want to always carry with me and share with my children. There is literally never a dull moment living on the farm. A small part of the many generations of Harlans that have farmed the same land; The Harlan family has planted their family seed and cultivated loving and hard working values; Amelia playing with one of the first pigs, Burnt Toast, that she raised when she was only 8 years young; and Amelia making sure that all of the oats on the farm have been planted on time. Growing up where I did taught me that I can do anything I set my mind to. In everything I do, I want to carry the tradition of hard work, success, and love for the product of our toil that my family has instilled in me. • California FFANEWS • Spring 2015 7
