State Officers ON THE G O! By Ellen Van Noy, State Reporter Hop in the car, chapter visit season has taken off. As the year continues, the State Officers travel up and down the state of California going on numerous chapter visits. The month of October was a busy one. We started out with chapter visits in the Superior Region and trickled our way down to the South Coast Region. Completing 27 visits total for the month. As October came to a close, the State Officer team packed their bags, jumped on a plane, and embarked to Louisville, Kentucky for the 87th annual National FFA Convention. At National Convention, the team had an absolute blast attending sessions, serving as national delegates, and competing for national titles. During sessions we were inspired by keynote speakers, Nick Vujicic, Donnie Smith, and Jane Herlong; in addition, we celebrated the success of FFA members representing California in various competitions and events. While we were there, Dipak competed in Extemporaneous Public Speaking, Ellen competed in the Parliamentary Procedure contest, Haley served as a committee chairman for the Careers in Agricultural Education Committee, and Luis, Sierra, and Roman championed the delegate process. With all the excitement and fun nationals flew by and we were soon off to Washington D.C to explore the Nations’ Capital with several California chapters. Rich in history and culture, the California Association FFA toured D.C, visiting the Smithsonian Museums, White House, and our Nation’s Monuments. After the three fabulous days in DC, we returned home to California, with more chapter visits awaiting. The month of November was packed as we migrated from the San Joaquin Region to the Superior Region, completing a total of 30 chapter visits for the month. Chapter visits continued into December, as the State Officer team journeyed to the Southern Region. There we had several incredible chapter visits and we also had the opportunity to attend the California Farm Bureau Federation (CFBF) State Convention. This conference was a blast and the team was able to assist with the Discussion Meet contest. We also had the opportunity to treat ourselves to a day at the “happiest place on Earth”……Disneyland!!!“ December ended with MFE/ALA training to help prepare us for the upcoming season of leadership conferences. As our last three months come to a close, we cannot wait to see each of you at MFE/ ALA and State FFA Leadership Conference. We’ve had an incredible year thus far and we are anxiously awaiting the awesome things in store within the next few months! • California FFANEWS • Spring 2015 5
