winters FFA FFA Farm Day Spring 2014 Edition Submitted by Jill Oates On October 30th, kindergarteners came to the Winters High School Ag Farm for a fun day of learning agriculture. During this time the children went on a hay ride, picked and painted a pumpkin, planted a wheat seed, pet farm animals, made agricultural arts and crafts, and competed in sack races. The kindergarteners were given a snack of animal crackers and they learned that the wheat they planted was the same type of wheat that was used to create their delicious snack. During the day, the children were all seen smiling, laughing and learning. Winters FFA values the importance of children being aware and educated about agriculture. Youth of all age need to learn about the importance of farm animals and how to grow plants in order to continue improving agriculture for the future. This event is just one of the community service events Winters FFA puts on every year! The ag students at Hamilton High take care of their mandarin orchard year round. The tasks include pruning, irrigating, and weeding. Students of all grade levels came together to hand pick the mandarins all in one day, just before the weather turned to freezing - which would have ruined the fruit. T ^H[
