Hollister FFA Summer Livestock Classes Submitted by Mark Scalmanini, Chapter Reporter The Hollister FFA chapter strives for their students to become the greatest they can. During the summer, Hollister FFA ag teachers put on classes for students to learn about their market animals and the proper ways of showing them. So far, they have learned a lot about how to take care of their animals. First, they learned about the ingredients in their animals’ feed and proper nutrition. They have also learned how much proteins and fats should be in the animals’ feed, proper places to give animals shots, as well as animal identification methods for livestock animals. Most recently they discovered the different breeds of all the livestock animals that they show. Learning all of this helps them to take care of their market animals safely and easily. One of the other classes is a practice show day designed to be just like a fair class that students would compete in, allowing them to understand how to show their market animals. The school’s ag barn is supplied with all the market animals, lambs, goats, swine, and beef. There, the ag teachers sho ܁
