“Here By The Owl” California FFA, get to know your new State Supervisor of Agriculture Education, Dr. Lloyd McCabe! 1. What FFA Chapter are you originally from? I was a member of the Nevada Union-Grass Valley FFA Chapter as a freshmen and Merced FFA Chapter my sophomore, junior and senior years. I served as Chapter President & Reporter. 2. What led and inspired you to work for California FFA in this capacity? I like helping students, teachers, and administrators understand the value and importance of Agricultural Education and the FFA student leadership program. 3. What is a goal you have set for yourself or the California FFA Association in your new position? Hopefully I can continue the legacy established by Bob Heuvel to improve and expand agriculture education in California. 4. What is your favorite thing about California FFA? I enjoy watching the regional, state, and national FFA officers perform motivational workshops to members at the various leadership conferences such as the Greenhand Conferences, Chapter Officer Leadership Conferences, State FFA Leadership Conference, and the Sacramento Leadership Conference. As an FFA member, my favorite activity was showing market lambs and Registered Suffolk Sheep at fairs and shows. A personal message from Dr. McCabe to California FFA members: It is an honor for me to serve as State FFA Advisor of the California FFA Association. I am a product of the FFA and there is little doubt in my mind that most of my personal and professional successes are due to the leadership training and experiences that I learned as a high school student in the Future Farmers of America organization. As your new State Advisor of this great organization, I hope that my advice will always be based on true knowledge and ripened with wisdom! 10 California FFANEWS • Fall 2014 Top: From left to right: Lloyd McCabe, Greg Beard, Brad Dodson, Ted Gregg, Jean Landeen, and Ken Harris attending the Fresno State Field Day.
