Cal Poly, SLO Takes on State FFA Finals The California State FFA Finals consisted of 21 Career Development Events where students from around the State competed for the chance to represent California at a National level. Career Development Events help students develop professional and communications skills. Students had the opportunity to place individually or with a team, depending on the event. The winners of these competitions will go on to represent California at the National FFA Convention in October 2014 in Louisville, Kentucky. This prestigious event is put together with the help of Cal Poly faculty, the College of Agriculture Food and Environmental Sciences advisors, and students. The State Finals Committee is made up of 35 students and 10 advisors. This group prepared over several months for the over 2,500 FFA members to join them in San Luis Obispo on May 3rd. Cal Poly has been proudly putting on this event since 1934. This event allowed students all over California to showcase their work, and helped them in a personal and professional manner. Many of these students have a school legacy to live up to and therefore diligently prepared for this statewide competition to put their hard work to play. Every memory these members make shape their life, so Cal Poly worked hard to make a positive impact on their lives! Not only do the members get the benefit of this event, but the Cal Poly students that help put on this event gain leadership skills and help in building a great foundation for the college. Within the State Finals Team there is an array of committees that include Arrangements, Awards, BBQ, Communications, Contest Liaison, Photography, Results & Finance, Sponsorship, and Tabulations. The Agricultural Education and Communications Department advisors also play a big role in putting on this event annually. They supply direction and experience to their respective student committees. By the end of the busy day students were recognized for their hard work and commitment to their competition. Even though winners must be named, every student who participated gained a lot from competing. The State Finals Team was excited to host the 80th State Finals!
