Step 1 :
Find your inspiration * Once you have decided on the theme of your cake design , it is time to research and find your inspiration . Use design or art books ( even kids books can be useful for this !) and Google search , making sure you vary your terms to get the best results . The more you know about a topic the easier it is . Take the time to think about the design , its scale and how it will interact with the shape and style of your cake .
Step 2 :
Create your image Once you have your inspiration , you are ready to create a design to paint . When putting together a collage or “ street art ” style of image , start with the large focal points and build in smaller detail . Think of what you want to be the bold statement of the cake and use texture or geometric designs to fill in blank space .
Step 3 :
Trace Lay your image flat and cover with a piece of tracing or baking paper , securing the edges of the paper together . Trace the outline of the image onto the tracing paper with a non toxic lead pencil , making sure you copy all of the outline and also any important finer details .
* Remember to respect the work of other artists and use the images to inspire you rather than for pure imitation .
