Once Upon a Christmas It ’ s a world of magic and make-believe for both children and adults at Saskatoon ’ s branch of the Western Development Museum . Boomtown is transformed into a winter wonderland with vintage Eaton ’ s store window displays . The mechanical moving figures were originally built in the mid- 1940s by aircraft technicians and WWII veterans for the downtown Winnipeg store . A Victorian Holiday Dickens Village Festival in the town of Carlyle offers a heartwarming display of community spirit circa 18th-century London . Locals and visitors alike dress up in Victorianera attire to celebrate at Canada ’ s only Dickens festival .
