Long-time CAA Saskatchewan Members share their stories By ChrisTine niemCzyk ThroughouT 2017 , CAA Saskatchewan Motor Club has celebrated 100 years of dedicated service. To thank valued Members and customers, CAA has thrown monthly store parties, planned other special events, and will also award the CAA Celebrate 100 Years $100,000 Member Prize. On June 21, the CAA Saskatoon East Store hosted a special party during CAA Saskatchewan Week, as proclaimed by the Government of Saskatchewan. The event included special guests, as well as long serving Members, some with 60-plus years of membership. Here are a few of their stories. Julia & John Davies (above) MeMbers since: 1978 The Davies have been CAA Members for nearly four decades—ever since they moved to Saskatoon from Kenora, Ont. They’re avid clients of CAA Travel and still book all of their travel with Kathryn Lockhart, an experienced CAA travel consultant at the Saskatoon East Store. Kathryn booked the Davies’ very first trip to China in 2001—an amazing three-week tour. Since that trip was their first travel- tour experience, Kathryn made sure everything was handled professionally and that the couple would be safe during their travels. In 2015, Kathryn booked the Davies on a 28-day Viking Cruise. It was their first ocean cruise and they trav- elled to Spain, Portugal, Finland, England, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Poland, Estonia, Russia and Germany. John says it was the best thing they’ve ever done. “And no matter how many questions we have, Kathryn is always there to answer them promptly and professionally,” he says. olga & ernest KonDra MeMbers since: 1957 A CAA Member for 60 years, Ernest first purchased a membership because of his job as a salesman. Retired now, he relies on the membership primarily for roadside assistance. “The service has always been excellent and very dependable,” Ernest says. Both he and his wife, Olga, an Associate Member, When Hilda read about CAA’s store party in the spring issue of CAA Saskatchewan Magazine, she immediately marked it down in her calendar. Both she and her husband, Claude, were excited to be part of the centenary celebrations. The couple joined the auto club because of CAA’s reliable reputation for roadside assistance. Hilda was president of the Imperial Order of the Daughters of the Empire (IODE) and did a lot of highway driving. Claude felt more secure knowing that CAA was just a phone call way if Hilda ever needed help on the road. The pair has used their membership in other ways too: They booked a trip through CAA Travel, they’ve requested vehicle battery assists, and even had their vehicle unlocked a couple of times. As older drivers, both Hilda and Claude are proud CAA Members because, as Claude puts it, “you just never know when you may need it.” Bill Yea Der MeMber since: 1953 Bill purchased his CAA Membership from a door-to-door salesman some 64 years ago. “CAA has been very good to me over the years,” he says. CAA’s Roadside Assistance has helped him with battery assists, fuel deliveries, and unlocking his vehicle. Bill appreci- ates the fact that CAA staff are always so helpful and pleasant. “With CAA, you have service available to you day and night,” he adds. “I will keep my CAA membership for as long as I can!” CAA SASKATCHEWAN WiNTEr 2017 13
