1 Take a haunted hike through history Explore the haunted side of New Brunswick on a spooky stroll through Fredericton . Guided lantern-lit tours , led by the Calithumpians theatre troupe , expose the seamy underbelly of Maritimes ’ history .
Listen to tales of mayhem as you meander through tombstones at the Old Burial Ground , erected in 1787 . See the Boyce Mansion , which is supposedly haunted by
an eternally grieving mother . And beware the shrieks of the Dungarvon Whooper , the restless ghost of a murdered Miramichi lumber-camp cook .
2 See part of the Berlin Wall — in Lunenburg You read that correctly : See a sizable slab from the nowdismantled Berlin Wall in a quaint Nova Scotia port town . The chunk of Cold War history is one of six wall pieces currently on public
display in Canada . At first glance , a German relic may seem out of place in this iconic shipbuilding port . But it ’ s a fitting homage to the town ’ s heritage : In 1753 , a group of 1,400 German immigrants settled here and founded Lunenburg , now recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site .
3 Raise a pint of Alexander Keith ’ s Drink up history at the legendary Alexander Keith ’ s Nova Scotia
Brewery in downtown Halifax . Keith built the landmark suds facility in 1820 , but it became clear that the brewer had loftier ambitions . He was appointed to the Nova Scotia legislature and later served two terms as mayor of Halifax .
Today , Keith ’ s legacy brewery appears much as it did during his time — a miraculous achievement considering its proximity to the site of 1917 ’ s Great Halifax Explosion .
