Silent Witnesses Memorial See it with CAA On Dec. 12, 1985 an Arrow Air flight of American peacekeepers, on their way home from a mission in Egypt, crashed near Gander. All 256 souls onboard the plane perished. On the site, the Silent Witnesses Memorial stands to commemorate the crash—the worst ever on Canadian soil. The striking statue features a U.S. soldier flanked by two children, each holding an olive branch to memorialize the peacekeeping mission of those lost. L’Anse aux Meadows Walk in the footsteps of Vikings who first landed here over a thousand years ago. L’Anse is the only authenticated Norse settlement in North America. Prime Berth Fishing Museum A shrine to cod, fishing, whales and all things related to the sea, Prime Berth is a must-see in the town of Twillingate. Cape Spear National Historic Site A tour favourite, it’s the easternmost point in Canada and North America and well worth a stroll around the grounds.
