SPORTS
If the Horseshoe Fits
It takes more than a little
luck to perfectly pitch a
horseshoe. This summer,
the best throwers in
Canada will descend on
the town of Whitewood
to compete in the 2018
Canadian Horseshoe
Championships. It’s no
surprise for Saskatchewan
to play host to the event, as
the sport often sees success
in the province. Last year’s
men’s division winner, Colin
Finnie, hails from Kenaston
and has earned 12 national
titles throughout his playing
career. The competition will
play out over four days at
the Whitewood Community
Centre.

Fish On!
Things will get a little
fishy on Tobin Lake in
July at the annual Walleye
Championship. Ranked
as one of the top fishing
spots in North America,
it’s not uncommon to pull
out 10-pounders on a day
A Real Barn Burner
The weekly farmer’s market
five kilometres north of
Moose Mountain Provincial
Park is housed inside a
quaint venue: an iconic red
Saskatchewan barn. There’s
something for everyone
at the Red Barn Market,
including baked goods, jams
and jellies from local ven-
dors. You’ll also find artistic
offerings that could include
the likes of handcrafted
keepsake pens carved from
wooden items. Musical
entertainment on the out-
door stage beneath the barn
loft provides the perfect
soundtrack for locals and vis-
itors to while away a Sunday
afternoon. Good Eats
The Regina Farmers’
Market boasts some of the
freshest locally grown and
handmade products you
can get in the province. The
food-lover’s paradise, in
business for 43 years, was
once voted one of the top
10 markets in Canada by
Destination Canada. From
Saskatoon berry caramel
popcorn by POP!ed
Paradise to Saskatchewan-
harvested rice in Rusty’s
organic wild rice pancake
mix, it’s easy to see why
RFM remains a hot spot for
foodies. And don’t forget
to check out the occasional
Market Under the Stars
evenings (dates to be
announced), for more tastes
and tunes of the city.
