We northerners know that it’s quicker to take #6 north, through the Interlake, and west on #60, with just the last two hours on #10. This trims at least an hour of driving time and you can take in the pristine wilderness along the way. Vaughn W., THE PAS What Drives CAA? I always thought CAA stood for Canadian Automobile Association, but your fall issue devoted just one page to auto-related issues (“Battery Basics”), plus a short section about tire storage. The rest of the magazine was all travel related—insurance, cruising, shopping, luggage and even some interior design suggestions. Shouldn’t there be a few more autofocused articles? Margaret G., WINNIPEG Editor’s note: At our roots, CAA is an automobile club, but we offer so much more today. We are also a fullservice travel agency, an insurance brokerage and we boast the CAA Rewards program, which has more than 126,000 reward partners across Manitoba, Canada and the world. We want to ensure members are aware of all these top services—to help them get the greatest value from their CAA membership. Of course, automotive is still very much ingrained in our DNA: Check out our winter driving guide in this issue (p. 49), plus some great reads about road safety issues (p. 25) and auto storage tips (p. 23). 6 winter 2016 CAA Manitoba Up in Smoke I enjoyed reading about the Les Toits du Monde tree house hotel in your fall issue (“The Ultimate Quebec Bucket List”). But it seemed careless of the writer to run around with sparklers in the woods, in light of the problems we have with forest fires in Canada. Norman U., WINNIPEG Editor’s note: We appreciate the words of caution, Norman. We certainly don’t condone the careless use of fire in or around wooded areas. Flight Firsts In “A Field Guide to Snowbirding” (fall 2016), you highlight the flight from Vancouver to Brisbane as the first flight from Canada to Australia. But I think Air Canada has been flying from Vancouver to Sydney for several years now. Gordon S., WINNIPEG Editor’s note: You are correct, Gordon. Our story should have read that the Vancouver-Brisbane flight is Canada’s first year-round, direct flight to Australia’s Queensland region. Everyday Hero Thank you to Daniel, the CAA technician who came to my rescue. He arrived within 20 minutes of my call. I am six-months pregnant, so it was a huge relief to get such prompt and professional assistance. Danielle A., LA BROQUERIE WEST Correction Notice “A Field Guide to Snowbirding” ( fall 2016) stated that Canadians may stay in the U.S. for 183 days in a calendar year. The correct number is 182 days.
