by the way Cruising down HigHway 1 , make a pit stop in the town of Elkhorn to find more than 100 of the world’s oldest, quirkiest and coolest cars. The Manitoba Antique Automobile Museum was the brainchild of Isaac Clarkson, local resident, farmer and passionate auto restorer. The idea was simple—preserve a part of Manitoba’s legacy that would otherwise end up on the scrap heap of history. Since 1967, the museum has displayed antique vehicles that say as much about the 66 Spring 2018 CAA MAniTOBA region as they do about engines. Take, for example, the museum’s oldest car, a 1909 Hupmobile. In the 1920s, original owner and municipal councillor Matthew Black could be heard coming a mile away, as the roadster rambled down dusty rural roads. The museum also houses antique farm equipment used for generations on local family farms, as well as a vintage fire truck.
