The Klondike Spirit
is today’s only
operating paddle-
wheeler in the
yukon. We board
the grande dame
of river cruisers
and happily bob
along the yukon
river, learning
about Dawson City
and the klondike
gold rush. As we
meander down

the murky water,
we see evidence
of how mighty
this river can be:
The shore is
dotted with
wrecks of old
paddle steamers.
Locals call it the
“paddlewheel
graveyard” to
remind them of
the strength of
Mother Nature.

We end our night in Dawson City
by kicking up our heels at Diamond
Tooth gerties gambling Hall. Old-
time piano tunes provide the lively
soundtrack, while flamboyant
cancan girls take centre stage. Just
be careful which table you choose
for the show: If you sit too close to
the stage, you’ll likely become part
of the entertainment.

As dusk falls in our Land of the
Midnight Sun, we board a plane to
fairbanks, Alaska for the next leg of
our epic journey. reflecting back on
our yukon exploration, we relive the
fun we had, sharing laughs, legends—
and cinnamon buns.
AND
Arriving in Dawson
City is like stepping
back in time. It is
truly a living dis-
play of history as
most buildings
have been restored
to their 1800s glory.
To fully absorb the
town’s rich gold
rush heritage, we
make our way to
the Dawson City
Museum. Housed
