The ubiquitous markers scattered on rural roads herald everything from a community’s grassland birds (Melita) and cattle (Sainte Rose du Lac) to former NHLers (Carman). In this chorus of self- proclaimed accolades, Rennie’s sign stands out— for its sheer lack of anything notable. The town, 62 Fall 2018 CAA MaNITOBa about 125 kilometres due east of Winnipeg, is known locally as the Gateway to the Whiteshell, thanks to its proximity to the provincial park. But the community steadfastly waits for something more…something bigger…someday.
