A Good Scream
Come October, it seems you
can’t walk a dimly lit mile
without bumping into a
Halloween haunt. For a side
of caring with your scaring
this year, head to Grim
Acres near Brandon. For
seven years, husband-and-
wife duo Brian and Amber
Sutherland have used their
annual spook-tacular as a
way to raise funds in the
fight against cancer. Grim
Acres Scare Away Cancer
Halloween Yard Haunt and
Maze features 23 theme
rooms, an escape room and
a snack shack throughout
nine acres of zombie-filled
countryside—with all
proceeds benefitting the

The rodeo comes
to Brandon
Not Their First Rodeo
The annual Manitoba Ag Ex
in Brandon hosts hundreds
of cattle competing for
best in show. There’s no
doubt where the beef is, but
some of the most thrilling
competition takes place
during the event’s Manitoba
Finals Rodeo. Pro cowboys
compete in this three-day,
sudden-death contest of
courage, skill and endur-
ance. Events include saddle
bronc, bareback riding,
tie-down roping, steer
wrestling, barrel racing,
bull riding and team roping.
The overall winner will be
crowned Saturday night in
the main arena.

Cup Dreams
This fall, the second-
annual Canadian Hockey
Expo takes over Winnipeg’s
Red River Exhibition Park.
The two-day event puts
Canada’s favourite sport
at centre ice, with loads of
hockey-related gear and
activities for players,
parents, coaches and fans.
Test your skills at an inter-
active demo, make some
moves on the synthetic ice,
preview the latest high-tech
equipment and talk to some
of the best trainers in the
biz. Keep an eye out among
the hockey hoopla to spot
some star players too.

Street Beats
Join thousands of revellers
at ManyFest, an annual
event celebrating the
“many” sides of Winnipeg,
including community, arts
and entertainment, and
healthy living. Kick off your
day at Ciclovia, where you
can walk, wheel or run on
car-free city streets. (Look
for the CAA tent along
the route on Broadway for
swag and snacks.) After all
that cardio, head to Chill
Zone for free massages and
hourly yoga sessions. Over
at Food Truck Wars,
you can chow down
and vote for your
favourite pop-up
eatery. When the
sun sets, catch a
movie in the park
or free concerts by
local musicians and
bands, including
Indigenous per-
formers from the
Manito Ahbee Festival.
