Canada is experiencing a craft
beer boom—and Whistler is
no exception. Breweries have
been popping up throughout
the region, and the best way to
taste their brews is aboard the
Whistler Brewery Tour. led by
a local beer geek, the guided
sip-and-sights tour stops at
three nearby breweries, where
you can take a peek behind
the scenes and sample flights
of house-made suds. once
you’ve found a favourite brew,
hit up one of the village bars to
partake in a full pint. handleBar
on Blackcomb Way boasts
rotating taps of local brews.

After A ride on the Peak 2 Peak
Gondola from Whistler to Blackcomb,
I make my way to Christine’s in
the Rendezview Lodge, high atop
Blackcomb Mountain.
As I walk into the restaurant, I’m
greeted by the exquisite mountain
view through a wall of sun-drenched
windows. On super-cold, clear days
like this minus-25 afternoon, the sky
is a stunning blue that contrasts
perfectly against the pure white of
snow-covered hills outside. Who
needs art in a setting like this?
Scenery aside, the food is pretty
stellar too. Head chef Steve Ramey cre-
ates a culinary adventure for the palate
with local ingredients on his season-
ally changing menu. I get lost in the
incredible taste of a tomato-braised
meatball appetizer and Ramey’s inven-
tive take on tater tots (fried chickpeas
with Indian spices).
To choose just one of the tempting
main courses seems near impossible,
but as a lover of lamb, I have to go with
the confit lamb shoulder. The rich fla-
vour combinations explode from the
meat like a spinning aerial skier.
To make Ramey’s fantastic food even
better, I complement my dessert course
with a curated flight of B.C. wines, and
toast my lunch companions: To good
food, great views and the mountain life.
Village fare
Whistler offers fantastic
noshing options for any budget
and taste. for a morning bite,
stroll through the village and
try home-baked goodies at
Purebread, or grab some-
thing to go at Gone Village
Bakery. for lunch or dinner,
West Coast sushi fanatics
should stop at Nagomi Sushi
at the base of Blackcomb. it’s
a bustling spot that serves
some of the freshest rolls and
sashimi i’ve ever tasted.
