Info 029 CHIMPO Back To Basskicks @ The Moon Club, Cardiff, Sat 5 Oct Admission: £5/£4 before 12. Info: [email protected] Back To Basskicks, a monthly club night located upstairs in the Full Moon, is a year old this month. They have cemented their position on ‘the scene’ with a pointedly mixed bag of music that’s fun to dance to when yer merry: dubstep, breaks, hip-hop and even (especially?) the dreaded electroswing. That headliner Chimpo, a DJ whom BTB describe as “Manchester’s big monkey man”, represents the night’s darker and more serious side might tell you something. That said, there’s an impressive heavy-booted bounce to Chimpo’s productions, which fold in bass drops, grime MC chatter and raggamuffin refrains; labels including Big Dada and Tru Thoughts have picked up on his tracks.
