Carole was born on August 4, 1940, to Gordon and Iva DeMoss in Battle Creek, Mich., the home of Kellogg’s cereal. Because of this, several members of Carole’s family have worked for Kellogg’s. As a child, Carole’s father worked for United Steel & Wire, where grocery carts were made. Her mother was employed as a waitress. Carole has one younger sister, Georgena “Porge”, who currently lives in Castleberry, Fla. In 1958, Carole graduated from Athens High School in Athens, Mich. Shortly after graduating, she married Don Bradstreet. Carole and Don were blessed with a son, Keith, and daughter, Karen. During this time, Carole worked for the U.S Federal Civil Service and then as a dental assistant. After Don and Carole went their separate ways, Carole met Kenneth “Buzz” Newton from Massachusetts. At the time, Buzz was a member of the United States Airforce. He went on to serve a total of 20 years, spending much of his time as a Flight Engineer. Together, Buzz and Carole were blessed with two daughters, Kimberly and Kaylene. Eventually, Keith and Karen became Newtons. Being a military family, they traveled throughout world. While living in Memphis, Tenn., they were neighbors to Elvis Presley’s Graceland. On one occasion, Carole actually saw Elvis driving his car! For four years, Carole, Buzz, and the rest of their family were stationed in Germany. While there, the family lived in “the economy”, meaning they lived off- base. They rented the first floor of a house in the town of Weisbaden and developed an close friendship with the German family that owned the house. After Buzz’s retirement from the Air Force, the family moved to an 80 acre farm in Collins, Mo. Upon moving, Carole worked at a family practice medical clinic. Carole has many hobbies which include: sewing, floral arranging, interior decorating, crocheting and crafting. She loves spending time with her family, including her nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. In 2014, Carole made Butterfield her home. She enjoys participating in the weekly art class, playing Bingo, the parties and craft activities. She’s always working on a project! Thanks for sharing your story with us Carole.
