Neva Landon, Resident of the Month Congratulations to Neva Landon on being selected as the resident of the month for Jan- uary. Neva Arlene Jones Landon was born Feb. 24, 1933, in Osceola, Mo., to Tom and Jewel Jones. Neva was one of seven children. She had five brothers: Leo, Donald, Dick, Darrell, and Tommy, and one sister, Jean. Neva grew up in Clinton, Mo., where she shared many happy memories with her fami- ly. She worked at an ice cream parlor as a teenager. She graduated from Clinton High School in 1950. Neva met Carl Landon, and they became high school sweethearts and married in 1950. The couple moved to California shortly after marrying. Carl worked at the Kellogg Com- pany, and Neva became a stay at home mom to their four children: Steve, Tom, Carla, and Mike. The family lived in California for 34 years. Neva worked in the home and also at Hunts Cannery for a short time. She also was a foster mom and raised two foster children . Carl retired in 1985, and the family moved to Eudora, Mo. Carl volunteered for the Eudora Fire Department, and Neva en- joyed helping to care for four of her grand- children. The couple moved to Bolivar in 2005. They were blessed with 59 years of marriage when Carl passed away in 2010. Neva has always enjoyed crafts, such as making hats, quilts, angels, and making Christmas ornaments. She is a member of the Eudora Baptist Church in Eudora, Mo. She enjoyed many years of volunteering with her church. She was the nursery volunteer for 12 years, cooked for the “Keenagers Club,” sent food and dinners for sick and those just home from hospital, helped with decorating the church for holidays, and taught craft classes at the church. Neva moved to Butterfield in 2016. She enjoys sewing, embroidery, quilt- ing, crafts, and working puzzles. She started a “Hat Lady” club at Butterfield, and her and several other ladies enjoy decorating hats and wearing them for holidays and special occasions. She also enjoys the music groups, parties and socials. Neva loves spending time and visiting with her many friends and family, including her daughter, Carla and husband Bob of Bolivar and son, Steve and wife Terri of California. Her sons, Tom and Mike, are deceased. She is blessed with six grandchildren, five boys and one girl, and four great grand- children, three boys and one girl. Thank you for sharing your story with us, Neva. We are blessed you are a part of our Butterfield family! Are you a caring individual who would like to assist in caring for the elderly?
