He was play- ing for the Bear Creek team and a young lady named Pauline Phipps was a cheerleader for the Stockton high school team. The two met at that game and began dating. They became high school sweethearts and after graduation in 1946 ,the cou- ple got married. The couple moved to Fair Play, and Ray worked at a grocery store. They would later move to Ozark, Mo., where he went to work at BBM Lumberyard. In 1951, Ray joined the U.S. Navy and was a Quarter Master Petty Officer 2nd Class. He served in the Korean Conflict where he worked in visual communication, navigation, and steering the ship. He was in active service until 1955. He then continued to be in the naval reserve for 4 years. After returning from service, the couple moved to Lebanon, Mo., and Ray worked at the BBM Lumberyard. He then worked for a manufacturing company and was an office manager for an oil company. Ray then accepted a position for the United States Postal Service and worked for the next 34 years, until his retirement in 1994. Ray and Pauline were blessed with two chil- dren, Sue Ellen and Scott. They have shared many wonderful memories together as a family. Ray and Pauline were married for 60 wonderful years before she passed away in 2006.
