Regina Blum, Resident of the Month Congratulations to Regina Blum on being selected as the Resident of the Month. Regina was born on April 15, 1927, to Carl and Esther (Roberts) Power in Garnett, Kan. Regina has one younger sister, Carlene, who resides in Tinley Park, Ill., located near Chicago. While attending school in Chickasha, Okla., Regina met Darus Greathouse. Originally from West Virginia, his service in the United States Air Force brought him to Okla. The couple were married in 1942 and a year later were blessed with a son, Darus Greathouse, Jr. Currently, Darus Jr. lives in New Jersey. After Regina’s marriage to Darus went their separate ways, she returned to school to obtain her high school diploma from Hannibal-LeGrange College in Hannibal, Mo. During this time, she and Darus Jr. were lived with her mom and dad, so she could focus on her education. While attending the college, Regina met Robert “Bob” Blum. He was in the U.S. Army. They married in 1950 and were blessed with a son, Timothy, who currently resides in Washington. The Army stationed Bob, Regina their family in New Jersey, where they lived for many years. During this time, Regina worked as a dental assistant. In 1978, Regina and Bob moved to Bolivar with their grandson, Jason. Since they were his legal guardians, they chose to raise him in a good community. Currently, Jason currently lives in Springfield and has two children of his own. Regina was employed by the Bolivar Chamber of Commerce for 13 years and worked at the Polk County Library for three years. At the age of 75, Regina was able to retire. She and Bob were fortunate enough to have the opportunity to travel through out the United States and Canada. In her free time, Regina enjoyed all aspects of residential architecture. She would attend different open houses and look at the different floor plans. She passion for architecture allowed her to designed the family’s house in New Jersey. Regina enjoys following politics and stays informed about current events. In 2014, Regina made Butterfield Residential Care Center her new home. Her care and consideration for others is a blessing to all of us. Thank you so much for sharing your story with us, Regina!
