Health The 7 Million dollar broken arm A Caribbean holiday, a friend’s broken arm and seven million dollars later, a homegrown Grenada investment is paying off for one enterprising businessman! “I came here on vacation and a friend of mine had an accident. He had to travel to Trinidad to have his scans done and that got me thinking -why are these services not offered here on island? So that’s when the idea came to me to bring radiology services to Grenada, especially as the General hospital did not offer the service” explains Dominic Paul. And this is the true story behind the ‘birth’ of Spice Isle Imaging Center and by extension the availability of first rate radiological services in Grenada through Dominic Paul and his company. Spice Isle Imaging Center began operations in St David’s, conducting its first medical scan in July 2004, with modern digital, state of the art technology and equipment. Today Spice Isle Imaging Center offers many crucial services the state run Grenada hospitals are unable to provide at this time. “From the day we began we have gone a long way in helping to reverse the trend of citizens being forced to seek medical attention overseas as we are now in a position to do these tests right here on island. So gone are the days when in order to get tests done or a diagnosis one has to travel abroad,” says Paul. “So we are extremely pleased that we are now in a position to make a crucial difference to the continuing good health of the nation by offering quality services locally,” he adds. Paul says on a personal level, it is not just about feeling proud to be a Grenadian born businessman to have built such a state of the art medical facility. It is on a deeper level. “I don’t really feel proud but privileged to be able to offer myself to my country. As a born Grenadian having lived for years in the USA It really is important to me that I can now offer something back to the land and the people I love. Living in the USA you soon appreciate how expensive medical services Dominic Paul CEO are.
