Proof comes in its latest offering to customers – ‘broth in a bag’ the brain-child of director and manager of Spice Isle Fish House …James Ince. Fish heads and chunks of fish are sold in a two pound bag to customers who need only to combine with the right amount of liquid, fresh herbs and spices ready to ‘bubble in a pot’ to make a classic Caribbean fish broth or fish stew. “We find sales have been very popular amongst the local market,” says Ince. The business also plays a support role to the fishing sector, working with over 400 fishermen of Grenada, Carriacou and Petit Martinique. Exporting any product to the notoriously stringent US market, let alone a perishable like Yellow Fin Tuna fish, is no easy feat and Spice Isle Fish House is understandably very proud of this achievement. “All health and safety certifications have to be in order. Export licenses, facility licenses, food and safety certificates, bioterrorism certificates, we have them all. The company is keen to stress however that it is not just a fish shop.
