This is the view of Samuel Britton, GM of the Grenada Union of Teachers Co Op Credit Union. “The man on the street prefers to put his money with us, as there are no charges, no monthly maintenance or convenience fees that Banks charge,” Britton a founding member of the GUTCCU, and a teacher himself for some 30 years, says times are changing. “If we continue to get the man on the street to save with us, then maybe Banks will have to relook at their own products and services,” Britton declares. The GM at GUTCCU for the last 15 years, Britton believes GUT’s success and growing membership are all down to that original guiding philosophy. “I believe the Credit Union is an institution that empowers people.
