One advantage the Herreras bring to their work is equipment not found elsewhere on the island, which permits them to do jobs, such as elaborate door designs, that others cannot do. “Our specialized machinery surpasses all our competition on Grenada,” Janelle says. “We have all the equipment here to do any needed job.” The company also is proud of their on-time performance. The Herreras state they can deliver a custom kitchen in just one month from order. In fact, they add, one frustration is that their kitchens are often ready before the house the kitchen is meant for is finished enough to receive it. One reason for their quick turnaround is that all work is prefabricated in their shop before it’s shipped to the jobsite. “We go to the site and take measurements, then build everything. When it’s all prepared, we install it. We don’t like to make a mess in anybody’s house.” A further expansion of Herrera Interiors is on the horizon. The firm is constructing a new building to house their showroom, while fabrication work continues at the shop. The space will be shared by a fire and security company and an equipment rental firm, that the Herreras will help to manage. This will enable one-stop shopping to both furnish and protect your dream home. The Herreras also have a dream. It’s that of building a brand around their Caribbean-flavored style. Janelle explains that the “Italian kitchen” is currently in style, but that if she and Stephen have their way, the “Grenada Kitchen” will also become a design watchword. “Many buyers feel they need to order from Europe to get what they want, but, she says, “you’d be surprised what you can get in Grenada … if you find us.”
