Thus, “our connection to Charlotte allows us to offer our clients a complete package right down to the bare details.” Charlotte brings to the ‘co-operative’ a wealth of experience earned through her many years of practice in her native country of Germany. The individual strengths of each team member makes for a most formidable design collective. As projects are developed, the three member team engages in constant discourse. “Each individual is prepared to listen to criticism in order to find a solution that brings them forward as a group,” the trio explains, “to make informed decisions based on the collective without negating each other’s individual strengths.” To aid clients in visualizing projects, the architects most often will produce detailed models that will clearly depict the form and internal workings of their buildings. “Our experience has shown that most people have a hard time reading drawings, where as they can easily understand a model and imagine themselves within the spaces” explains the architects. Models reassure clients that the spaces specified in the architect’s detailed working/construction drawings are suitable for their needs. Models are also beneficial to the architects as they “provide the opportunity to study the structure of buildings, their placement within the landscape/site, and can give incite as to how best to maximize natural light, ventilation, and fully capture the benefits of the Caribbean sun, sea, and sky”.
“With respect our design process, architecture should be a co-operative effort between owner, architect, builder and the community,” the architects say. This includes intense involvement of property owners from the start of the design right through to the completion of the building process. With the many challenges of sites, budgets, worker skills, materials and construction issues which may arise, the architects guide their clients through the difficult phases, keeping a close eye on projects to ensure quality in the delivery of their projects.
