#BWSMAGAZINE We’ve moved into a converted barn and consequently two of our bedrooms have massively high ceilings. We’re struggling to think what we can do to utilise some of that ‘upper’ space. Any suggestions? Think about bespoke storage perhaps – ideal especially for the things we put away and can forget about? Other options – as the photo shows – is to use an oversized mirror panel. Not only does it fill the space but also help reflect light – and in this case reflects a statement light fitting - and delivers a real impact. The wall panel effect we installed looks like it has been there forever. We’re giving an uncle’s flat a makeover and he’s insisted on carpeting throughout – apart from the bathroom and kitchen, of course! We want something hardwearing but stylish. Anything new out there? These days there is a huge choice of hardwearing carpet and we are no longer restricted to 100% wool (although this is often still our first choice). Recently we’ve directed clients towards carpets made from Tencel - or lyocell fibres - which means their choice will be not only very resilient and easy to maintain but offers a wide range of colour and design. Tencel is made from wood pulp which is then made into cellulose before resulting in silky, plush looking carpets. A Tencel carpet can look very opulent but it remains hugely practical and so is easy to keep clean and will last a long time. A good quality underlay will also enhance the appearance and functionality of the carpet and make it feel more luxurious underfoot. 15
