From the Editor From farm, family, fabrication to fruition T o the Readers: If you are anything like me you are often thinking about ideas for new products which could eventually be turned into productive companies with income and stability as the ultimate goal. Many of the stories we have focused on for the May issue of The Business Times have done just that. This month we are reporting on eight Edmond-area families or individuals who have taken an idea, such as a family recipe, and created a business from it. We are again focusing on the topic of “Eat Local, Eat Fresh,” and reporting on a variety of “Made in Oklahoma” products which have been turned into successful businesses. There are barbecue sauces, salad dressings, seasonings, and honey. There are uniquely- flavored pretzels, cookies for nursing moms, and dog treats to help keep your pets healthy. As well, there’s a business expanding to downtown Edmond which is offering Oklahoma-grown produce, eggs, dairy, 4 May 2018 | The Business Times humanely-raised meat, and other products. These products share that common theme: they are freshly made in our area. Many of these products have been promoted or had their start by being offered at the area farmer’s market. The farmer’s market just started back up for the year, and runs every Saturday mid-April through October, except for the first weekend in May due to the Downtown Edmond Arts Festival. The market is located on 1st Street, one block west of Broadway in Edmond. The Edmond Visitors and Convention Bureau describes the market as a family-friendly environment where you can purchase regionally grown produce and Made in Oklahoma food items. For those of us who dwell on new products and businesses, this is an opportunity to read about and support several in our area who have already taken their ideas and created businesses successfully. We hope you enjoy reading our “Eat Local, Eat Fresh” issue of The Business Times. MARK CODNER is the editor of The Business Times of Edmond
