Desire to fix things makes entire career BY VAN MITCHELL | PHOTOS BY KAREN MOORE D wain Huebert grew up on a farm near Corn and had an interest in how things worked and how they could be repaired. He parlayed that curiosity into a career where he ended up owning his own automotive repair business, Dwain’s Automotive, at 105 West Third Street in Edmond. “I grew up on a farm in Corn and I had a cousin that went to auto mechanic school in Weatherford and he liked it,” Huebert said. “I thought I would like to do that because I like to fix things.” Huebert went to school and later was drafted in the United States Army and also worked for a Pontiac dealership before 8 July 2018 | The Business Times venturing out on his own. “Failure was not in my vocabulary at all,” he said. “We didn’t make much money at first and we lived on what we made.” Huebert said business was doing well in the 1980s and he and his wife made the decision to sell and head to New Mexico due to his wife’s health. While there, they opened a Dwain’s Automotive in Rio Rancho. The couple decided to return to Edmond to be closer to family and again took over the business they previously sold. “We hired a manager in New Mexico and we started over here again,” he said. “We rebuilt it and we have done well.” With more than 80 years of automotive
