Emily Sherrell How long have you lived and/ or worked in Clark or Floyd counties: Lived for 30 years; worked for 15. Where do you work and please tell us about your job responsibilities: I own my own accounting busi- ness. I specialize in bookkeeping and payroll services for small busi- nesses, and I also do consulting work. Please tell us about your definition of leadership — both in the workplace and in volunteer efforts: I think that a good leader is someone who has done every job within his or her company and 32 July / August 2018 knows what it takes to perform tasks well and who can relate to those who are currently performing them. How else can you teach and lead effectively? Please tell us about all volunteer efforts that are important to you and why: I love working with children. I think we should all do what we can to help the next generation be suc- cessful in order to make the world a better place. In your opinion, what is the single best thing about being involved — living or working — in Southern Indiana and why: I love Southern Indiana because it is the perfect mix between city and country living. We are a small town, but there is still so much to do. Our towns are developing and new busi- nesses are popping up everywhere, which is great for encouraging entrepreneurship. We also have Louisville just a short drive across the bridge, and there is so much tradition there with the Derby and many other things. Its just a really great place to be. If you could put your time and/or money into one thing in Southern Indiana to make it better, what would it be and why: I would love to see more addic- tion and recovery resources for addicts. The opioid epidemic has affected a lot of people in our area, and I wish there was something we could all do to figure out how to bat- tle it. I'm not sure what that is, but if I had the extra time and/or money, that's what I would try and focus on.
