BIZ BUZZ O'BRIEN FURTHERS BANKING EDUCATION PRINCIPAL CHOSEN FOR PICKWICK PRESCHOOL OTTUMWA — If you witness a young executive sent to the Graduate School of Banking at Colorado, you’re probably look- ing at a rising star in the banking industry. Locally, Aaron O’Brien was enrolled in school — and 25 months later, graduated in the top 10 percent of his class. According to a press release, O’Brien, vice president of commercial and ag lending at Peo- ples State Bank, studied the 25-month banking course, which provides management and lead- Aaron O'Brien ership training for community banking profes- sionals; it is hosted on the campus of the Uni- versity of Colorado in Boulder, Colorado. GSBC graduates often continue to become leaders in their respective organizations, the release stated. Requirements for graduation also include comprehensive examinations, intersession research projects and participation in a bank-management simulation course designed to provide students with experience managing a bank. OTTUMWA — Michaela Pirnat O’Connell began her duties as principal of Pickwick Early Childhood Center in Ottumwa July 1. O’Connell has an associate degree from Kirk- wood Community College, a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the University of Iowa and a master’s degree in educational leadership from Viterbo University in La Crosse, Wisconsin, according to a press release from OCSD. O’Connell has worked for Des Moines public school and private preschool programs and most recently worked as an assistant language teacher Michaela Pirnat O’Connell in Kofu, Japan. A love for Iowa and the work that OCSD is doing to provide quality education drove O’Connell to apply for the Ottumwa position, the press release says. DOBRASKA RETIRES FROM DEERE OTTUMWA — Roger Archer of Main Street Insurance was recognized with two high-level awards earlier this year. KHI Solutions presented Archer with the 2017 Partners in Excellence "Grow your Business" and "Diamond Level Achievement" awards. These honors acknowledge "the expertise and sales experience Archer uses to find the right Roger Archer products to fit the individual needs of his cli- ents," according to a release from the company. KHI presented these awards to the top 10 percent and 5 per- cent of their agents based on 2017 sales production and reten- tion. OTTUMWA — Curtis DoBraska has retired from John Deere Ottumwa Works.
