TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY- CORPUS CHRISTI COMM & MEDIA WEEK APRIL 2-6, 2018 INFORMATION CONTRIBUTED BY: DR. ETHAN THOMPSON ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR, DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNICATION & MEDIA, TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY-CORPUS CHRISTI T exas A&M University-Corpus Christi’s COMM & Media Week is an annual series of events which showcases aspects of communication and media in our personal and professional lives, encouraging critical engagement and discussion outside of the classroom. The schedule is designed to bring students into contact with visiting scholars, professionals, community mem- bers, and alumni. COMM & Media Week will take place April 2-6, 2018. A highlight for this year’s event includes bringing Dr. Miranda Banks (Emerson College), a promi- nent media scholar, to campus. Dr. Banks will speak Wednesday, April 4 about currents attempts to diversify the media industries in Hollywood, and what past attempts to bring more women and people of color into the industry can teach us about Hollywood’s problems today. On Thursday, Dr. Banks will be bringing her game Room at the Top into the classroom. Room at the Top is a massively multiplayer card game about how we collaborate in creative environments. In pursuit of our dreams to make media, how do we weigh our own vision with our team’s strategy? Cre- ate, negotiate, and compete in a race to achieve success! The game was an official selection at 2018’s IndieCade, the premiere game festival for independent games. 17 BUSINESS MATTERS MARCH 2018
