CORPUS CHRISTI ARMY DEPOT Many people do not realize the importance of the US Army Depot to our economy nor do they realize the number of people employed at this facility. The major mission of the Depot is repair of helicopters including the UH-60 Blackhawk, which constitutes the bulk of the work. Other serviced include HH-60 Pavehawk, AH-64 Apache, CH-47 Chinook, and the OH-58D Kiowa. The Corpus Christi Army Depot is ONE OUT OF 11 Army Depots operated in the US Although the focus of others is not helicopter repair. An unusual aspect of the Depot is that it competes for work against the pri- vate sector repair entities. Thus, its costs and performance are critical, and there is an on-going pull to privatize their activities. The Corpus Christi Army Depot has been very cost effective and frequently receives awards for its performance. As previously mentioned, NASCC and the Army Depot are linked. Were NASCC no longer funded to continue its mission in Corpus Christi, the De- pot would have to pick up 100% of the cost for the base, as opposed to its current 50% share. If this were to occur, it is likely that the Depot would no longer be cost competitive, especially over time, and its viability diminished. UNITEDCORPUSCHRISTICHAMBER.COM 28
