FACTS ABOUT OUR MILITARY NAVAL AIR STATION CORPUS CHRISTI FACILITIES NASCC houses multiple missions including Corpus Christi Army Depot, Coast Guard Air Station Corpus Christi, Defense Logistics Agency Cor- pus Christi, Naval Air Station Forecast Detachment Corpus Christi, Sur- veillance Support Center (SSC) and Veterinary Treatment Facility. We are always on the lookout for additional missions. { } these two missions contribute By far the largest missions are the Naval Air Operations and the Army Depot. These two missions alone employ 8,900+ peOPLE with NAS being the largest workforce of 5,298. This is 5% of all the employment in Corpus Christi and includes both military and civilian employees. 7.5% of our local economy & $5.7 billion per year to the economy of Texas THE FUTURE OF THE TWO MISSIONS IS LINKED. NASCC has been proudly training pilots since 1941. Currently, about 400 pilots are trained annually. Training is done for certain other military branches as well as the Navy. Also located at the Air Base is the Chief of Naval Air Training (CNATRA) which is responsible for overseeing the training operations through- out the Southeast Region, from Texas and Florida. The training fields include NAS and three outlying fields, not including Corpus Christi International Airport which is used for landing practice and receives the benefit of these operations. NAS is funded primarily via the budget of the US Navy as part of the De- partment of Defense. Its funding covers approximately 50% of the cost of the base in Corpus Christi.
