Business Matters Fall 2018 - Page 28

T he first annual "State of the Chamber" took place the evening of Tuesday, September 25 at Embassy Suites by Hilton. The inaugural event began with a keynote address from the Executive Committee on current United Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce events, efforts and initiatives. Notable takeaways from the informative presentation include the following: Membership Growth The Chamber projects to end the year with 300+ new members! This reflects a 46% increase in annual new member growth from 2017. Additionally, our list of members at the “Leader” level, the highest tier of membership dues investment, has increased by 25% over the last twelve months and currently includes 20 companies that work to improve the economic vitality and quality of life for our region. This significant growth is evidence that our organization continues to gain momentum and strength; we are currently 1,217 members strong! The Hidden Benefit of Membership A common theme of the presentation was the continual advocacy efforts of the United Chamber. Committees are formed to take on specific areas of work, most of which fit within the advocacy piece of the Chamber, and also provide an opportunity for Chamber members to get involved. Events & Innovation As a newly formed organization with a vibrant and historic past, we are in a unique position to develop, monitor and tweak our signature event programming to best fit our needs. This past spring we introduced the “Commit 2 Commerce” (C2C) Campaign where members were provided with a comprehensive and strategic approach to securing their Chamber event sponsorship and marketing opportunities for 2018. Successfully executed with significantly less overhead costs than previous efforts, this initiative allowed members the opportunity to secure their sponsorships for less and provided exclusive access to opportunities that were available only during the campaign. Moving forward, we plan to continue the annual "Commit 2 Commerce" Campaign in the latter part of each year in hopes of better coordinating with many members’ budgetary cycle and providing the opportunity for businesses to plan for the full calendar year ahead.
