GUEST CONTRIBUTOR ATD, career development strategies–– such as skills training––have been linked to increased employee retention. Organi- zations invest in training because the in- vestment pays dividends in a myriad of ways: increased efficiency, increased em- ployee engagement, increased customer satisfaction, increased sales opportunities, reduced turnover, reduced accidents and reduced insurance premiums. Simply put, employee training is an invest- ment––specifically, a cost of doing busi- ness. The College provides training using na- tionally-recognized programs such as FranklinCovey, Development Dimensions International, Inc., Ken Blanchard Com- panies, NCCER, OSHA and others. Del Mar offers classes specific to companies’ needs and schedules, enabling each com- pany to provide training on an accelerated timeline. “Del Mar provides company-specific train- ing to organizations throughout the re- gion,” says Dan Korus, Dean of Workforce Programs. “We also work with companies to secure training dollars through the Tex- as Workforce Commission’s (TWC) Skills Development Grants, which is an excellent way to leverage funding that can offset training costs.” “Del Mar College secured training funds from the TWC to help us get the STAR Kids program up and running,” says Bill Lars- en, Vice President of Human Resources at Driscoll Children’s Hospital. “We truly val- ue our partnership.” STAR Kids is the first Medicaid-managed care program for chil- dren and young adults. Del Mar workforce training is available to customers thr oughout the Coastal Bend region, including corporations, industries, municipalities, government and non-profit organizations. Frances Wilson, President and CEO of the Women’s Shelter of South Texas, notes, “Del Mar’s Corporate Services Training has played an important role in providing the foundation essential for good manage- ment. College staff was knowledgeable, flexible and supportive in their efforts to meet the unique needs of our non-profit agency. I would recommend the College’s Corporate Services Training to any busi- ness wanting to invest in their workforce.” Contact Del Mar College Corporate Ser- vices at 361.883.WORK (9675).
