T
he European Flexible Intermediate Bulk Container
Association (EFIBCA) kicked off the interpack trade
fair with its second Dinner Reception on 3 May at the
Hyatt Regency Hotel in Düsseldorf.
More than 80 delegates from around the world capitalised
on the opportunity to re-connect, and establish new
business contacts at this networking event the evening
before the event opened. “We were very pleased with the
turnout and feedback. The interest this event generated was
enormous. We look forward to hosting it again in three
years,” commented event organiser and EFIBCA
representative Allison Bouchat.
Guests were greeted by the association’s president Roelof
Veld and general secretary Dr Isabell Schmidt, who
highlighted the important work EFIBCA is doing to promote
knowledge and awareness about FIBCs, quality and ethics.
The recently published EFIBCA FIBC User Guide was
presented along with its quality and ethics initiatives for
members, namely the Q Quality Pledge and Code of
Conduct. All attendees received a printed copy of the
EFIBCA User Guide and a day ticket to visit Interpack.
Guest speaker, Daniel Stricker, head of market research and
editor-in-chief of KI (Kunststoff Information) gave a
presentation on the development of the PP market in his
presentation “Polypropylene on the way to autonomy”,
explaining the evolution of the primary material used in the
production of FIBC from its birth from refinery remains to
recent turmoil in supply and demand. Further he explained
why, for the mid-term at least, propylene will be abundant
rather than in tight supply.”
Represented at this year’s Interpack at a stand with the
German Plastics Packaging Association (IK), EFIBCA
registered a strong interest in both the association and its
members. “We observed representatives from all aspects of
the industry coming by to find out more about our members
or how to become a member. Almost a quarter of EFIBCA
members had a stand at the fair, and some that didn’t use
ours to meet with customers and contacts,” reported Dr
Schmidt.

A
new Bulk-Out bulk bag discharging system from
Flexicon is designed for use in explosive environments.
The BFC series model features a pneumatically-powered hoist and
trolley to raise and position the bag inside the discharger frame,
eliminating the risk of potential sparks from electrical equipment or
fork trucks that might be otherwise used for this function.
A Spout-Lock clamp ring forms a high-integrity, dust-tight seal
between the clean side of the bag spout and the clean side of the
equipment, while a Tele-Tube telescoping tube maintains constant
downward tension on the bag as it empties and elongates,
promoting complete discharge of free- and non-free-flowing
material from the bag.
The all-stainless-steel construction is designed to withstand
corrosive environments and allows rapid, thorough wash down
with caustic cleaning solutions.
The unit is available with a hopper and pneumatically-driven
flexible screw conveyor, a tubular cable conveyor or a rotary airlock
valve to feed material into a pneumatic conveyor line.
Flexicon also manufactures BFF-Series dischargers equipped with
top-mounted receiving cups and a removable bag-lifting frame for
forklift loading of bulk bags, as well as BFH half-frame models that
rely on a forklift or overhead hoist to suspend the bag during
discharge.
